Okay-
so as 2025 winds down and 2026 leaps into the abyss… I’ve been trying to stay focused on making words and telling stories. That’s my plan and I’m sticking to it.
Okay- so last spring, there was a May I write, challenge. I think it was the next iteration of NANOWRIMO (national novel writing month), in which the goal is to write 1500 words every day to complete a novel, 50k words, in one month. Well, it was a grand concept, which– like many things around us these days– imploded spectacularly.
Anyway- cut to last spring, May I write. I jumped in late, around the middle of the month. But I did write 3k words every day and that was what got Luck’s Dagger finished (I think?).. I honestly cannot remember what project I tackled for that. It might have been a Kirrin book, it might have been Rogue Mage. it might have been some book I wrote in delirium of which I have no recollection:)
The point is– I realized that as a practice, writing 3k words regularly is not a huge challenge, and that the more consistently i wrote, the easier it became. Plots and arcs etc were fresh in my head (even i can keep track of things for a few weeks at a time. Ask me the same question (book related) 6 months later and you could get 10 different answers… especially around character details. Eye color? family’s income/trade.. details.. yeah– poof!
ANywAY- by now I’m sure you’re wondering where this is going and if I remembered to take a daily medication (spoiler- Im not on any– 🙂 but This December, I decided I needed to rediscover that laser focus and drive. so I started the new years potential-resolution early. That’s how i got bk7 started and up to 10k words within the first few days. That was a mixed vibe for me. On the one hand, good start. On the other hand, 10k of a full novel (90k+) didn’t feel like a big dent. But I kept at it, and now, on 5 jan, I’m at 20k words. The end of the opening act and setting up the main chunk of the novel. yay!
So- i decided I would use this space to keep regular updates on my own progress, and share the adventure with any of you who have been following along.
Let’s wish all of us luck and love in these very turbulent times:)
