So, I’ve learned that I should never trust my own eyes, especially when I have stared at something for too long. I know this with editing, and I rely on my beta readers with more trust than I would give my mother:)
I did NOT follow my own wisdom when I finished the kickstarter special edition and uploaded all the files to Bookvault. Mistakes were made. Mostly.. mine. I absolutely own the issues that were created.
Mostly, I entered the incorrect trim size. I’m surprised that BV’s auto check didn’t catch it. I suppose it was “close enough” that it didn’t flag. However, I got the proof copy (4 weeks later, because special printing and shipping from the UK:)… and it didn’t take long to see that Houston had a problem.
The author and title information at the top was missing. The page numbers at the bottom were missing. Heads were cut off in several of the chapter headers. YIKES! and text bled through on several of the images. Ie, you could see the text on the back of the page, through the image. Then, we spotted issues with the cover.. the layout of author and title didn’t match the BK1 special edition. It looked great- but it wasn’t correct. another YIKES.
Anyway- most of the interior issues were caused by incorrect trim size and choosing cream paper instead of white. I have no idea how cream was chosen because it was never a consideration. At least these are fairly easy fixes and the entire book won’t need reformatting. And note- that– would be a huge deal, because the page layout changes would mean every single chapter header would not longer be the same. big yikes! so- a sigh of relief that this is correctable and not a disaster:)
On the plus side the book will be stunning when it is done properly. And, I can use some of the interior images for promotional purposes:)
