So Im pretty new to Kickstarter, but I’m kind of excited. As an epic fantasy author, it’s becoming harder and harder to find and connect with my readers. Amazon pages are stuffed and overflowing with litrpg and romantasy. More classic fantasy is getting buried!
But Kickstarter, KS, looks like a new potential way of showing off all the cool things, stories, and extras, that authors like me are putting together. The extras. And, like Brandon Sanderson did, gives us the opportunity to compete with the big publishers. How? Well, they have millions of dollars to create fantastic looking books. We don’t. That’s just a fact. No complaining. I don’t think I would take a trad-publishing deal if it were offered to me. (well, it depends on the terms.) Too many strings, and the permanent loss of all rights. Even if a book doesn’t sell, you don’t get it back. Ever.
So- authors like me can’t afford the upfront costs of expensive print runs. But we know that booklovers adore those fancy, flashy covers and deluxe editions. Kickstarter helps us to make that happen!
So, I am putting together my first baby KS campaign. I’m working with a designer to come up with a really nice cover design. I’ll post some of the ideas below– those are just for style idea…
But here are the reward tiers I’ve been building up for my KS campaign. It may get changed slightly, if I come up with some better or different ideas!
- Tier 1 exclusive novella Wandering Mage 5.00
- Tier 2- 10.00 illustrated ebook1 with bonus content
- Tier 3 15.00 1-4 digital Book 1 paperback and digital
- Tier 4 – Paperback and digital copy of book1
- Tier 5- paperback and digital copies of books 1-4
- Tier 6 Deluxe special edition hardback copy of Winter Mage with sprayed edges and bonus content 50.00 (maybe?) Plus digital copy) (shipping extra)
- Tier 7- Deluxe special edition copies of books 1-4 with sprayed edges
BONUS CONTENT- I am putting together character bios, back stories, Kadaris’s origins, a section on magic and deities, and an author commentary. I may also be doing some bonus chapters..
Possible cover concepts to work from- ignore the soldier– I just liked the embellishments there;)

SPRAYED EDGES WITH THIS DESIGN? What do you think?
